  • 1.  Samsung Galaxy Camera stuck on Front

    Posted Oct 30, 2019 02:57 AM
    Hello Powerapps Community.
We're building an awesome PowerApps Showcase leveraging CustomVision.ai but have hit a brick wall with device compatibility. The user needs to take a picture of an object and let customvision.ai do its thing. On iPhone it works like a charm. but on a Samsung Galaxy S9+ running Android 9 the camera is stuck on Front facing instead of Rear facing. We then gave the user a toggle button to switch the Camera property of the Camera control (tried vairations wth 0,1, 2, and -1) to no avail. IPhone users can now toggle between front and rear camera but the samsung S9+ won't budge.

Even sample apps from the microsoft store are showing the same behaviour. When the camera control loads on the Samsung, it will only allow selfies and nothing else.

Has anybody else come across this? if we can't get the app to function poperly on the largest mobile phone brand in the world (https://news.strategyanalytics.com/press-release/devices/strategy-analytics-huawei-takes-17-percent-share-global-smartphone-market-q2-2)
then we need to abandon PowerApps and go back to Xamarin apps.

We have alread done following troubleshooting tests:
    1) cleared the cache for PowerApps
    2) cleared all data for PowerApps
    3) reinstalled PowerApps
    4) cleared the cache & all data for the Camera
    5) wiped the cache for the complete phone via the bios screen
    6) installed different versions of the app
    7) installed different sample apps (Site Inspection)

The only troubleshooting step left would be to wipe the whole phone. But we can't seriously expect users to do that to fix this bug which only appears in PowerApps and not in any other mobile app platform.

Yup, struck exactly this in Galaxy S10. I mentioned it in the official Microsoft PowerApps forum and some staffer told me to log it as a feature request (wtf).

Anyway, Camera 3 is the correct ID on my device so I put a button in the app to switch to that, which is an acceptable workaround, even though it kind of sucks having to do that.

I also had the same issue today with a new S10. I had 2 controls to save images.

    1. a Camera Control which is stuck in selfie mode despite toggling through cameras 0 to 3
    2. a Add Picture control which allows users to attach images they have taken previously and stored on the phone.

The first control is an issue but the second control works where you have the option to select to an existing image or use the camera to take a photo. If you select to use the camera you can then swap between front and rear facing camera.

I'm thinking I will just remove the Camera Control altogether now as the Add Picture control does both functions needed.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Hi Alex..

I know this is an old post.. but I found the solution here..

Basically you interrogate the phone to see what the available camera are and then select the one that you want..
